Diesel Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated entry-level to intermediate-level Diesel Mechanic with some Heavy Equipment experience to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of heavy machinery and industrial equipment. Assistance with ASE Certification is available for entry-level applicants.

General Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and air brake systems for heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, dump trucks, and ready-mix trucks.
  • Use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) schematics and technical manuals to accurately identify issues and execute repairs
  • Conduct equipment inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency
  • Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all repairs and maintenance activities
  • Assist in heavy lifting operations using appropriate equipment to facilitate repairs or replacements
  • Support troubleshooting of electrical systems, HVAC components, and other mechanical systems on industrial equipment
  • Operate and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support automation processes
  • Reading schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams
  • Maintain personal appearance in a neat and clean manner
  • Assist other Phillips Companies team members as needed
  • Take direction, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management
  • Cooperate with and promote a team concept among all Phillips Companies team members and customers
  • Adhere to all Phillips Companies safety and OSHA rules and regulations at all times
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Requirements:

  • Career Center, Vocational Certification, or 1-2 years of professional experience required
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License (Class D or CDL A or B)
  • Clean driving record and clear safety record, including ongoing compliance
  • Must pass background check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Some mechanical knowledge of Caterpillar, Ford, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Oshkosh, John Deere, or similar heavy machinery brands
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently during repair processes
  • Familiarity with automotive diagnostics tools and vehicle maintenance procedures
  • Able to effectively communicate with team members and managers

Working Conditions:

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, and outdoor environments
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment at all times while on location

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, crawling, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and climbing on equipment and in and out of the truck multiple times per day
  • Must be able to perform all job functions, including pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls, lifting & carrying up to 100 pounds as needed for repairs
  • Must pass basic physical and maintain ongoing compliance with drug & alcohol testing
